@Elhombresombra I completely agree, it seems to light rather fast, before reaching the self accelerating point. I doubt they run it up to power to reach to high an EGT, so other then increased wear and slight scorching, I can't see this harming it. I'd love to see a full power run though.

Sorry, I didn't want to imply anything. I just intended to say that, personally, I would not stay abeam of any non-aiworthy running turbine engine (and not even if it were airworthy, if I can stay elsewhere...) Apart of this, the engine seems to be suffering from insufficient acceleration due to low starter power: the sound frequency and flames from nozzle seem to confirm a possible overtemperature of some extent due to insufficient airflow. Anyway, I envy you for that little jewel you have! :)

IMO it's more likely the cameraman was simply not aware of the danger, a cameraman may not be an engineer... a turbine blade coming off the shaft tangentially is not so obvious for non-technical people ;-)

This engine usually produces a few flames on start up. There is no danger.
At most in this video, it is barely to what would be called ground idle. It is making no real power at all.
That's why it is on a pallet and is not moving.
It looks like a RR Derwent, which made between 2000 and 3500lbs thrust at full power, depending on the model.
At the speed it appears to be running here, It's probably making 50-100 lbs thrust.
Those old centrifugal compressor engines sound great.
