The Irish Human Rights Commission said in a report that Ireland's civil authorities for decades dumped women -- often teenagers being punished for petty crimes or becoming pregnant out of wedlock -- into the so-called Magdalene Laundries, a network of 10 workhouses that operated in independent Ireland from the 1920s to the mid-1990s.
In 1993 Father Oliver O'Grady was convicted on four counts of "lewd and lascivious acts" and was sentenced to 14 years in prison.Police had been informed of earlier charges and had declined to prosecute.
Recently as been living in the Netherlands where he acted as a church deacon assisting mass and helped out at a shelter for vulnerable women and their children.Now resident in Dublin.O'Grady was arrested at his hostel in Dublin, Ireland, charged with possession of thousands of images of child pornography.
Fr William Carney, After his ordination as a priest of the Dublin diocese in 1974, regularly sexually abused boys and girls. The Dublin Commission records complaints or suspicions about him relating to 32 named individuals and says there is evidence he preyed on many more. There is cause, too, to suspect he was part of a clerical paedophile ring and may have colluded with two other child-abusing priests, Fr Francis McCarthy and Fr Patrick Maguire, in finding victims in orphanages a "crude and loutish" priest who "used bad language" he met with Michael Woods, the then health minister, in 1980.
For three years Carney had been making inquiries about his chances of fostering children. A social worker who dealt with him thought his plan odd because "generally, priests don't parent children".After his lunch with the minister, Carney wrote to Dermot Ryan, the archbishop of Dublin, claiming that Woods anticipated "no difficulty from the Eastern Health Board.
On the day before a general election was called in 2002, Micheal Woods, education minister, capped at €128m the religious orders' liability for compensation of people abused as children in residential institutions.

@madamk The gardai have always been complicit in cover ups: many years ago I reported a neighbour who was abusing children. instead of taking action against this couple the Gardai terrorised me. I can only think that the reason for this was that I was a 'blow-in' (anglo irish), and the abusers were prominent in the GAA. this is at the heart of the Irish dilemma: The society is too small, too parochial... it's like living in a cut scene from ' Deliverance', banjo country...

Absolutely right. the catholic church IS the continuation of the holy roman empire, with the Cesar pope at its helm. They are closer to the teachings of satan than of jesus. they are out to sully the name of christ, to destroy our faith so they can usher in a new age, a world control system. True christianity is the enemy of the church. Read the new testament, jesus condemned the high priests. he said "call no man father"
