NICE! what's the name of thew album going to be?
-
Papoose, Cassidy, Saigon, etc., who have been signed but are also having trouble with their labels are all dope but they aren't getting the pub they deserve.
and then there's the artists i particularly like who are expanding hip hop like crazy but getting no recognition and i don't expect they ever will (Saul Williams, Prefuse 73, DJ Shadow [OK, he got a little], Metaform, Clutchy Hopkins, RJD2, El-P, Aesop Rock [he got some too], etc.).
-
2) i'm referring to new school cats who are dope but get silenced:
-Blu (23 years old, had his first album in 2007)
-Elzhi (in early 20's, dropped first album last year)
-Jay Electronica (31 years old, meaning younger than 50 Cent, is supposed to drop his debut this year)
-Termanology (26 years old, has several albums and a lot of Premo production)
-Joell Ortiz (in his thirties, was signed to Aftermath but didn't work out)
and then there's the dudes who are having trouble debuting...
-
1) none of the old school artists are retired, just hushed by mainstream media. artists from old school still doing their shit: -KRS-One (drops an album every year) -Rakim (dropping this year) -Wu Tang (dropped in 2007) -The Roots (dropped in 2008) -Kool G Rap (dropped an EP in 2008) -Big Daddy Kane (features on A LOT of albums) -Percee P (dropped solo debut in 2007) -Jazzy Jeff (dropped in 2007) -Dead Prez (dropped in 2008) -DJ Premier (produces for all the underground cats) etc., etc., etc...
-
...and 2) most of his content is obviously not there for pure artistic purposes. i don't mind the occasional dance track either, but dance tracks today are so tasteless and bland it's ridiculous. if i want to listen to a decent dance track i either look to golden age hip hop (even a lot of that was quite crass and useless), hip hop infused R&B from the 90's or straight up oldies. btw, i'm HEAVILY influenced by John Coltrane. you into any other music? jazz? funk? rock & roll? classical?

alright man, and as i was saying, don't judge immediately. we're the type of people who tell it like it is. if we like something we like it, if we don't we don't. i was personally AMAZED by Lil Wayne (and yes, i recognize he has talent, he just doesn't try and he's arrogant as fuck) with songs like "Georgia... Bush", "Tie My Hands" and "Hustla Muzik" and "1000 Degrees" is kind of dope, plus i've heard a few cuts from TI that were OK, but 1) with my taste in music, personally, i don't like him...

O i feel ya. Ok i wuz wrong my bad. But yea see i like those old school songs too. I don't listen to the radio even though i like the songs, they play the same 20 all day and every day for a long time so i just buy albums and download the legal free music. But would be nice to get some diversity on the radio. Hear a little new, a little old. Only problem is that the people that did the authentic old school sht are retired and aint making new stuff. Cept for Common.

and FYI, our movement is simply one to get balance back on the airwaves. artists like Blu and Jay Electronica should be able to share radio and TV time with Wayne, Jeezy, TI, etc. that is all.
One song I particularly like from T.I.'s new album though is the song "You Aint Missing Nothing" type it in on google if you have time and read the lyrics over. They may be wrong but for the most part you would probobly understand it. Since he going to jail he did a song tellin all the people currently in to hang in there nd shit. And the beat is awsome. Has pianos, guitars, and cool sounding electronic sht.

anyways, point is, mainstream hip hop needs more diversity. more knowledge. it's cool that you like that shit, and it shows you are more open than i am. just recognize that the shit on the underground and old school shit has merit too, some more so than most, if not all the shit on the radio today. the corporate powers that be have a choke hold on what music goes into the average listener's ear. THAT my friend, is what my colleagues and i are fighting against.
