If the lift tipped over, as was indicated in the news report, having a harness and lanyard "tied off" to the basket would not have helped. Same thing for connectors. All that safety gear keeps you from being able to move around and get out of the way when you have to. Shaking out bar joists? Same thing. Lanyards pull joists in the hole all the time.

yeah, people dont want to spend moneys like a fall arrest system so they can save a few bucks. what a shame.
