  • Oh OI agree. There is ample evidence of his actual ABILITY to sing piano. The criticism came from the frequency in which he did it.

  • il miglior duetto di andrea chenier il migliore in assoluto..........

  • and it WAS DelMonaco that said "soft singing is the CANCER of the voice"

  • @topmeat69 I definitely agree on that point. Voice teachers seem obsessed about keeping their singer's voices intact to age 95.

  • In this age of under sized voices one singers piano is another ones forte, today how many voices are over powered by one piano?

  • Who said Del Mónaco can not sing piano? They should hear these wonderful reach beautiful piano here!!! How wrong they are! NAP.

  • Due autentici "Mostri sacri"...criticarli sarebbe blasfemo e blasfemo sarebbe confrontarli con altri interpreti...

  • As magnificent this is, this performance does not reach the level reached at La Scala in 1949 (del Monaco's debut in the role). Particularly, though Tebaldi sings 'Ah! Ora soave.' very beautifully here, I doubt there is a more beautiful moment in recorded opera than Tebaldi's singing of that phrase in the La Scala performance. Absolutely indispensable.

  • Splendid and musical interpretation by two legendary voices and greatest artists of the 20th century and for a long while.....Thanks!
