John F. Kennedy's famous speech of September 12, 1962 challenging America to put a man on the moon.

On July 16, 2009 it will be 40 years since the lift off of Apollo 11, the first mission to land men on the surface of our moon.

  • Kennedy was the last great leader in the world after him came a lot of assholes.JFK were are you now we need youPres o'Bama talks a great talk but he has done nothing but appeared on lots of talk shows and made a lot of money for himself it's a shame I taught he was going to help us but he has helped himself.JFK god bless

  • @1sthawk007 All you had to do was look at Obama's thin record and the people he hung out with to know that "hope and change" really meant "more of the same." I honestly believe that Obama's 1st term is Bush's 3rd. I can't tell the difference between them sometimes. Obama expanded the war in Afghanistan, continued Bush's disastrous fiscal policies, never closed Guantanamo, and expanded wire tapping of US citizens. Like I said, the 3rd term term of Bush, only this time he is called Obama.

  • Like the a past poster said, this was when America was America - when America was strong. It is when America was loved by many more than today. It's when my relatives in Italy looked at America with awe and respect. Now when my cousins come visit, they bascially say Italians look at America as a joke when I ask them.

  • @Brooklyn3955 Your Italian cousins have a mighty high opinion of Italy. I've been in Italy recently and they are not exactly doing great either. The Italian economy is worse than ours, and they have an immigration problem just as bad, if not worse than ours.

But yes, I agree that the United States is not what it used to be. We have no spirit of adventure anymore. All we want is for the government to baby us, and to go camp outside shops and gun down others to get 20% off some Chinese-made TV.

  • This was when America was America.

This was when America was strong.

This was when millionaires paid 95% taxes.

  • @TTEchidna Lol, Millionaires back then paid less taxes than millionaires pay now. Although the tax rate was higher, there were far more loopholes than there are now. Millionaires would pay about 15% back then after milking all the loopholes.

What we didn't have then that we have now is a bloated military budget, a bloated entitlement system, and no industry to speak of (thanks to globalization). We no longer manufacture anything, and therefore we are running a huge deficit.
