How about we send the electronic machines back, COD, demand a refund in full, then use our school's optical scanners, that they already have to score tests with.
There is no such thing as electronic security. ANY electronic device can be manipulated and ALL electronic security systems can be cercumvented. And if the user is good enough, they will leave no trace.
3. No more private companies will be allowed to conduct the vote. Their equipment will be used, but the government will own and operate the equipment, and THE PROGRAMS THAT RUN THEM WILL BE OPEN-SOURCE SOFTWARE so we can see how it works. There will be complete transparency and oversight by bureaucrats every step of the way. The vote is the most important of the public commons. We vote in order to decide who gets to decide what happens with the public commons.
1. Columbus Day will be changed to Election Day, which will still be held in November like it is now. Then more people can easily vote without having to leave work, and the vote will disrupt businesses less.
2. We will adopt instant runoff voting in all districts in the nation. This will help to give 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th parties a chance. Not 7 parties, though, that's just crazy.
As a software developer, I will NEVER recommend electronic voting systems. That basically puts whatever is left of our democracy is the hands and control of a few - the software developers, and those who control the developers - not to mention security flaws, exploits and viruses.
I know what is possible... and too much is possible.
We must stick with ballots, which must be counted on site and reported to a public registry for everyone to see and tally...
Even if they printed paper software can be made to steal the votes. A paper trail would only work if the election keeps a indiviual printed record of each vote for future hand recount. Then why spend the all this money. BRING BACK PAPER BALLOTS!

Use recyclable card stock - kenaf works great.

X. Easy to mark, easy for even a computer to read, one for everyone, low maintanance, and a decent hardcopy left over for re-counts.

The answers, my friends, are as follows:

2. We will adopt instant runoff voting in all districts in the nation. This will help to give 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th parties a chance. Not 7 parties, though, that's just crazy.

I'm with blaxpear. I know how easy it is to forge electronic data.
