The end of the BBC Nine O'Clock News on 19 November 1987 - the day after the King's Cross Underground fire. Followed by interesting and relevant North East News story plus others (lots of bad news on this date) including the discredited Cleveland child abuse scandal. Weather with Bill Giles (I trust this 20-year-old weather forecast will be useful to you!). Radio Times promo including Children In Need, Dr.Who 150th story and Today programme 30th anniversary. Followed by slight continuity blooper.

  • I don't think they moved out of the New Bridge Street studios and into the 'pink palace' until Jan 1988. I have some recordings about that but they aren't dated.

  • Is it just me or does the newsreader for Look North bear a resemblance to Richard Hammond?

  • Yeah, they are still in New Bridge Street. The weather map and studio confirm that. When they moved to Fenham, they got a whole new look.

  • Paddy also does stuff for BBC Tees

  • Paddy Macdee was also a DJ on Metro Radio. Late 70s

    to early 80s

  • Ahh this is why I love Youtube with people uploading videos like this :) thank you

  • he didn't have owt to do with it. It was entirely Keff McCulloch.

  • Wow, check out the eyebrows of the Newcastle newsreader!

  • Paddy Macdee was a newsreader on Look North during the 80's and 90's and is now a breakfast presenter on bbc newcastle radio and he actually hails from southern ireland

  • The North East News no doubt came from that then-new building featured so prominently in Geordie Racer ...

Network announcer is David Miles, and the RT trailer is voiced by Charles Nove. I suspect that's Roger Limb music at the start of the trailer (I neither know nor care whether he had anything to do with that particular version of the DW theme).
