President is ready to solve non-possession of deeds for lands in Jaffna

President Rajapaksa has assured that the problem relating to non-possession of deeds for lands in the area will be solved expeditiously. He said that the Government was meting out sympathetic justice to the rehabilitated young men and women of the North.The President was addressing a public meeting staged at the Kilinochchi Municipal Council Grounds. It followed the unveiling of a plaque of the proposed international level sports complex. It will be one of the main complexes to be built at the Provincial level under the National Sports Policy. The estimated cost is 325 million rupees. It will have separate facilities for Cricket, Rugby, Soccer and athletics. The Complex will consist of an eight lane track, an indoor stadium with facilities for 25 sports, including a swimming pool and seating for 5000 spectators. In his address, the President further said that sports should be developed in the North so that players such as Muttiah Muralitharan and Nagalingam Ediriweerasingham can emerge from among the youth in the North. The President emphatically mentioned that action would be initiated to launch a special project to grant relief to widowers of Kilinochchi who were severely impacted by the war and lead dignified lives.

The President said he was able to witness the youth wearing the Hambantota Commonwealth Games tag. He said he was confident that it was not an arduous task of winning many Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at the Games.

Tharjini Sivalingam of the Sri Lanka national netball team made the welcome address. The President made a cash donation for future activities in her sports career. Meanwhile, the distribution of sports gear among several schools and sports associations took place under the patronage of Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa. Minister Douglas Devananda also addressed the meeting. Among the large gathering present were Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne, Minister Johnston Fernando, Northern Governor G.A. Chandrasiri and young men and women of Kilinochchi.
