This is the first installment of the DIY guide to building a Goldsprints racing system. I put this system together in the winter of 2008/2009 in order to hold Golsprints events. I was planning on writing a feature article about the device for Circuit Cellar, but after talking to Sean Donnelly, decided to put together a video article. So, here is the first installment of GoldSprints - A Bike Racing System.

  • I am working on two or three follow-up webisodes for this article. I haven't thought about making the code public - if I ever publish this in circuit cellar then it will appear there.

The follow-up articles should be more technical, in this article I lay out the need, requirements, and high level architecture. The next article focuses on the QRB1114.

I've resorted to mounting the IR sensors in a mated pair of 2x4's - not pretty, but quite robust.

  • You can download schematics and even get parts from OpenSprints

  • Do you have a website with the schematics and code? Did you work out a method of hardening the IR sensor against mechanical damage shown in your other video?
