..just got this. Thought I'd put a clip up so you can hear the DI tone - with roundwound strings. It'll soon have the flatwounds, with the chrome covers and mute. Using the Phil Jones Bass buddy with flat EQ and little compression.

Drums courtesy of Joe Crabtree - I like this one - it's a bit of an "Al Foster" :)

  • really nice bass and playing. what would be your preferred strings on it? i know that the heavy "jamerson" la bella's are not recommended for use on strings-through instruments.

  • @rocco777777

I have just put some Fender flats 50-100 on it, they sound good - I'll put something up when I get a chance. If Fender would be so kind as to send me a free 51 RI I'd have both flat and round by my side - they both sound great on this bass

  • @jamersonshook that's interesting. do you prefer the sound of the fenders to a lighter (than the jamersons) la bella set? what is the heaviest string that a strings-through instrument can take--would the 45-105 la bella flat set work, for example? which roundwound strings would you choose were fender to oblige?

  • @rocco777777

No real preference, both sound fine to me - the Fenders remind me of daddario chromes - I had some years ago on my Status Energy 5 but managed to snap the 132 gauge b-string at a gig I don't know what the max gauge would be for a through the body string - I bet those LaBellas would be fine though. I don't know enough about different rounds - I'm not a fan of having them change their tone as they wear in - they all have too much treble for me when new.

  • The Flick, Earl Van Dyke. Great bassline !

  • @teracite You can't get a p bass tone on the jazz bass, and the p bass has a good woody slap tone and pop that you also can't get on a jazz bass. And its all personal preference :)

  • Sell me it, please! :)

  • @teracite you hear that growl? good luck doing that on your jazz bass...

  • I'd be slappin' a set of GHS flats on there. They have a real old school thumpy sound.

  • Very nice playing and great tone. BSP

  • Thats wicked it sounds awesome :) I LOVE BASS!! :D

  • why precision ? lol i have a jazz bass and its large better , song , slap , finger , jazz , rock , ect... funk lol i dont understand .

  • how much does this cost, and do you prefer this over the modern p bass?

  • Flatwounds were great back in the day and still great today ,once you go flat you never go back.
