  • 911 my bird has just boursed a blood feather how do i remove it????

  • @AwesomeAlexblake IMPORTANT - Do not remove the blood feather. Firmly squeeze the end of the broken blood quill until the the blood clots. This may take some minutes to occur. Removing the blood quill will cause massive bleeding.

  • does it hurt when you clip the feathers? because i thought the little stalks are made of bone

  • @gdiggle123 No the feather shaft is not made of bone and is completely free of nerves. It does not hurt the bird to clip feathers.

  • can you cut the 6 primary feathers or you have to leave the top two on

  • @starluv2 You dont have to leave any of the primary feathers, cutting the final two will still give you the same result.

Take notice of the way the bird is held. This is called the ‘universal bird hold’. This hold ensures your bird cannot ‘struggle’ and also allows a bird to be completely comfortable in your grip. If you keep birds it is important to be confident in this technique as it is also used when administering medication, in which case having full control over the bird is absolutely essential - there is no such thing as a ‘safety’ crop needle, it is only the technique that makes it safe!

  • I have a question. I see a lot of birds that have... rough/broken tail feathers..

I was wondering... perhaps since they cannot fly and use it as a rotor or what ever flight purposed their tail is for, they dont recognize the importance of it.

SO... if they were allowed to fly, and found the importance of thier tail feathers, then perhaps they would take better care of it. I think the bird would be happier too and not pluck at it's feathers so rashly.

    What do you think? Thanks!
