Refuge Denied is the debut album by the band Sanctuary, who disbanded in 1991 (partially reforming as Nevermore).

This was the only album to feature extremely high pitched, layered vocals from vocalist Warrel Dane. It has been speculated that Dane injured himself in the making of Refuge Denied, due to the change in vocal style in his subsequent work.

It was produced by Megadeth vocalist and guitarist, Dave Mustaine.

"White Rabbit" is a cover version of a Jefferson Airplane song and Dave Mustaine performed the guitar solo on it.

Track listing:

1. "Battle Angels" (Sean Blosl, Dane) 4:30
2. "Termination Force" (Rutledge, Dane, Jim Sheppard) 3:49
3. "Die for My Sins" 3:37
4. "Soldiers of Steel" 5:24
5. "Sanctuary" 3:54
6. "White Rabbit" (Grace Slick) (Jefferson Airplane cover) 3:07
7. "Ascension to Destiny" 4:52
8. "The Third War" 3:47
9. "Veil of Disguise" 5:43

  • SO awesome!

  • The start of this song sounds so much like Foolin by Def Leppard.

  • @dakotamanomgwtf Really? What have you heard from Nevermore that you didn't like? They were a little hard to swallow for me the first couple times I tried listening to them but after I heard Sentient 6 it all just clicked for me. After hearing that song, everything they ever did just made perfect sense to me and it all became beautiful. If you haven't heard it, I would give it a serious listen. Just keep an open mind man, that song is seriously amazing. That whole album is incredible.

  • @dryrotdriftwood ehh IDK I don't really like Nevermore

  • @dakotamanomgwtf Disagree. If Sanctuary didn't disband we never would have had Nevermore, who are INFINITELY more talented as a band than Sanctuary. Nevermore is the single greatest band in the history of heavy metal, never before or after has any band had such chemistry amongst its members. As far as Warrel's voice is concerned- sure he doesn't hit the same highs anymore but his vocal performance and skill was on a completely different level with Nevermore than it was with Sanctuary.

  • @SuperLongbeard

    I totally agree with you.

This is actually 0% Thrash Metal, and 100% Power Metal.

Killer combination. The same thing for Iced Earth.

  • Excellent one. It took some time to grow on me.

  • Who would've guessed they would do this song again?

  • @black2007tl you are very funny dude!!!!!

  • @black2007tl and what song or kind of music do you like you little piece of shit?
