Reducing the nation's dependence on foreign oil was a major aspect of President Bush's State of the Union address. Car manufacturers are on their way to making that goal a reality - creating vehicles that can run on a variety of energy sources. General Motors plans to produce 400,000 flexible fuel engine vehicles this year. The vehicles are able to run on gasoline that is made of 85 percent ethanol, normal gasoline or any combination thereof. Ethanol is a renewable resource that can be made from crops like sugar cane, corn or potatoes. Bio-fuels like ethanol are also good for the environment - reducing carbon dioxide emissions and other pollutants. There are currently about 600 service stations in the U.S. that offer 85 percent ethanol fuel - nearly twice as many as two years ago. Many states and the federal government are rolling out incentives for more service stations to make the fuel available.

  • @jason123456789210 That's not the point. Corn should be eaten, not burned as fuel. Alcohol is also harder on the engine and produces less heat energy than gasoline resulting in less fuel economy. It also drives up food prices. Even Al Gore now says it was a bad idea.

  • @hawkermustang if it is and you have a flex fuel car just remove the flex fuel system, badge, and yellow cap

  • so how come it cost the SAME as reg fuel?

  • This corn fuel shit is retarded!

  • production of ethanol has been proven to take more energy than it can ever provide. It consumes valuable ground water, raises corn prices, is energy intensive in distribution channels to service stations...with 19 Billion spent since the 1970's and only 600 service stations !! this is insanity ....we would need 30,000 service stations and at what price??

  • @dopanan ...so energy can not be lost. so it can't be created or renewed. some people should spend more time in the real world. you gonna create a car that runs on the heat lost from energy conversion?

How about evaluating the concept in video? Ethanol is better than gas for the environment, albeit not as good as a bicycle. Ethanol also creates jobs here. There are more than 600 stations nationwide now. Too bad websites with locations are not always current. In California try pearson fuels.

  • Well, ive got the ultimate flex fuel vehicle. It is great on short trips uses less fuel per km/ mile then any other type of vehicle. Is cheap to run, I can use many fuels for its engine, fruit, vegtables, cereal, grain, even meat products. In fact in turning energy into movement, it is more efficient then a race car. Oh and its available right now, and emits NO pollution in its use.

    Its the common bicycle.

  • he's full-of shit (g bush)
