Almost all modern Christians hold Genesis verses 1 -11 to be myth. As for evolution it is a fact. Please spend a little time to sift the tares from the wheat.

Look around you friend, you really think, BOOM, and everything came to be? I attended a lecture where Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson speaking and he said that they still have no clue why life evolved on Earth. Do you my friend?

He's right that the bible doesn't agree with observation however. Now all he needs to do is realize the the "completely different" biblical story cannot be supported by observation, while evolution and all sciences are supported by observation. He's free to pretend the bible is true, but he should just understand it's a made up story and he believes on faith (belief without and despite evidence).
Don't LIE about science to keep your storybook. Toss the book, and enjoy reality.
