  • Hey I am in the process of doing a engine swap in 78 firebird but I don't know if I should go with a vortec motor or a lt1. What do you think? Also how do you like it do you think its worth it? Because I can get a hold of a vortec 350 and lt1 for cheap

  • @kingcity510 I like the LT1, but the aftermarket for them sucks, theyre reverse cooled so the heads are diff from an old SBC, and the inakes are dry, they dont have water passages, so they are different, and the intakes also have a different bolt angle and pattern that traditional. The only things you can really do to an LT1 is heads and cam and rocker arms, everything else is diffferent. But personally, just put a LS motor in it, easy to do, easy to find, and a never ending aftermarket for them.

  • @slownova73 your wrong you can interchange the bottom end from a sbc with an LT1, valve train you can swap also, im talking cam, springs, rockers, lifters ect. even main bearings. you can even interchange LT1/4 parts with LS parts. like the lifters and rockers!

  • @TheLTXCamaro Yeah, im not wrong, i just forgot to mention that, i know good and well all about the LTx engines and the SBC engines, and what interchanges and what doesnt. Its "basically" the same damn motor as a SBC. different style heads and block and intake and water pump, all on account of the reverse cooling feature. everything else is the same as the gen 1 SBC

  • @kingcity510 The LT1 is nice, but it costs alot to make more power out of it, but if your just looking for a driver, nothing fast or all cammed up, then just stick a stock LT1 or a vortect in it. or a LS series, they all work. but im going LS. go to LS1tech.com. they have a LT1 specific section, and they have a "conversion and hybrids" section, lots of good reading on both those engines, they may be hard to find so you might have to search for them in that section.

  • thanks your car rocks

  • @MCMLXIXvr wait till i get my Turbo LS1 build finished for it! ;P
