Angie is an American television sitcom that was originally broadcast by the ABC network from February 1979 until October 1980.

Starring Donna Pescow as the title character, the program was set in Philadelphia. The story revolved around one-time waitress Angie Falco Benson, her extremely wealthy new husband and former customer Brad Benson (played by Robert Hays), and the couple's two very different families: the blue-blooded Bensons and the urban Italian-American Falcos. Doris Roberts and Debralee Scott played Angie's mother Theresa and sister, Marie, respectively. A young Tammy Lauren played Brad's niece, Hilary; while actress Sharon Spelman played her overbearing mother, Joyce. Actor John Randolph played Brad and Joyce's stuffy father, Randall.

The show was a mid-season ratings hit during its first half-season on air. It ranked fifth for the 1978-79 season, thanks in big part to Thursday night lead-in Mork & Mindy, which ranked No. 3. However, ratings dropped drastically after a move to Tuesday for the start of the 1979-80 season, even though the show immediately followed the top-five hit Happy Days. Viewers lost interest in the interplay between the two lead characters after they were married in the season premiere, and many critics noted that much of the previously feisty chemistry that Pescow and Hays demonstrated on screen was apparently compromised once their characters were wed. The show was cancelled in its second season. 36 episodes in total were produced.

Reruns were played on ABC Daytime from June to September of 1985 after the program's cancellation as well as on TV Land in the late 1990s.

The show's theme song, "Different Worlds", was performed by Maureen McGovern and became a Top 20 Billboard (magazine) hit, reaching number 18 on the Pop charts and number one on the Adult Contemporary charts in 1979.

  • I always thought that, musically, this was one of the most beautiful theme songs that I had ever heard for any television show. When it was released as a single I was disappointed as it wasn't the same performance and apparently was re-recorded to make it more "hit-like" sounding. I believe it did fairly well on the charts. But I always liked this recording much more. The vocals, both lead and background, are smoother and better mixed. It just comes off as a prettier song.

  • I just can't get enough of that wonderful theme song to Angie. :)

  • The cast pictures remind me of the Brady Bunch intro. Maybe it was an ABC/Paramont Pictures thing.

  • This tune is awfully catchy but whenever I watch this and the other season's opening sequence, I can't help but be fascinated by how much time Angie and Robert seem to spend with their foreheads and noses pressed up against one another's.

  • Its interesting to watch the cameos of the actors..you can tell the ones with the most experience with "hitting the mark". Only Doris Roberts and Sharon Spelman and Diane Robin do it without that sway to the left (their right). All the rest do that sway..hit your mark and stand!!

  • Loved this song, just as I loved this show – Thursday nights on ABC, right? Really wish they'd release this on DVD. Robert Hays and Donna Pescow were terrific together, and how I miss Debralee Scott.

  • We love to see "Angie" to become available on DVD. The late 1970s sitcom, that is.

  • @BootPatrol ur nuts...friends of urs lol

  • I loved how most of the openings of 70s and 80s TV shows had the cast smiling awkwardly into the camera. I just imagine Robert Hays watching TV now and saying, "What the hell is this crap where they run the credits over the first scene??? Back in MY day we had to stand there and grin! Sometimes I threw in a wink just to kill time!" :-)

  • @singinjohnny This really is a perfect song about love. It's a bit odd though when shown with all that bad 70's slapstick sitcom humor... "Love, it conquers, Love, it binds" next to scenes of the "out of control whipped cream can" and "turkey in the lap". (>_<)
