I filmed this while looking at some hotsprings near mammoth lakes. I was not sure what type of animal it was at the time but looking back at the footage i can see this is a big cat cougar/Mountain Lion. (Mountain lions require a lot of room—only a few cats can survive in a 30-square-mile (78-square-kilometer) range. They are solitary and shy animals, seldom seen by humans. While they do occasionally attack people—usually children or solitary adults—statistics show that, on average, there are only four attacks and one human fatality each year in all of the U.S. and Canada.) = section taken from National geographic http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/mountain-lion/

What a stunning animal :-)

  • Awesome video, I think what you have there is a Bobcat though. Either way, seeing a wildcat of any kind is special, nice job catching it on camera

  • @vmona11186 Thanks I just wish I had a better camcorder at the time. I first spotted it with the naked eye at the other side of the stream. It then took me a minute or so to actually find it with the camcorder. :-)
