@MadisonLibbyTrent they have the training and ability that you just can't get from someone right out of high school. It also saves the Marines money on extra musical training. The President's Own Marines do not go to basic training (unless you're the one in a million who enlisted, actually went to boot camp, and haven no secondary fine arts training.

@MadisonLibbyTrent FYI you can sign up as a band member, but you're most likely going to be stuck at particular base or region. One of the biggest misconceptions involves The President's Own which is the most prestigious assignment for a musician in the Corps; however, what they do not tell you is that almost all of the Prresidentt's Own are recruited directly out of conservatories or symphony orchestras . This is because they are fully at a university.
