WORLD PREMIERE TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL 2010
"Surprisingly bi-partisan, this sharp documentary convincingly argues that the shady process of gerrymandering (politicians carving up districts in order to maintain power) makes a mockery of democracy—with confirmation from both sides of the political divide. Somehow, out of all that depressing news comes an exceptionally entertaining film. [Critic's Pick]"— Bilge Ebiri, NEW YORK MAGAZINE

I'm so glad California is having the redistricting process to go through a independent citizen's commission. Who in their right mind would think that giving politician's the responsibility is a good idea? When you look at it when politician's draw the lines, they do it to save their own political career's. States that have citizen commission's are known to something different. They actually keep communities of interest together. I'm glad CA now has a citizen's commission I hope others begin too.

@MDMHD2011 gerrymandering is just the process by which each state legislature draws the district boundaries for every state house and senate seat in addition to the congressional district lines for that state. this is done every 10 years along with the census, every congressional district must have relatively the same amount of people living in it. typically the party in control of the state legislature draws new maps favoring their party, few states have independent citizen commissions

I'm ignorant and kinda unintelligent, I know, but could someone please shed some light on what Gerrymandering is? lol, we're going over it in my Geography class, but I don't get it..something about getting an advantage on the other..but how does that happen? Why does it happen and how can anyone prevent it? Thanks lol..

Is Gerrymandering today determined by ethnic vote?

The myth is that America is a democracy. It was never a democracy because democracies always fall apart. What our founders gave us was a Constitutional Republic.

This is correct, it's the incumbent chosing his voters rather than the voter chosing their representative. What is interesting is that this was part of the civil rights act and conservatives are leading the way to have a constitutional gov't and this has been brought up. Yet, no current GOP members were seen in this film. The NC constitution states that you can not cut districts up except along county lines. Of course this changed in 1965. It along with the 17th amendment need repealed.

@pickmanfox Why would you want to choose any government? Do you not trust yourself to make rational decisions on your own? You need others to decide what laws you need to follow?

@BeranM
Have fun with that then.
I'll be over here exercising my democratic right to choose the government of my country.
