The ever-so overdue continuation of our any% WIP back in mid 2008. The run has been remade since then, to aim for real-time. The fundamental difference between real-time and ingame time is that real-time aims to avoid as much lag as possible and optimize the door transitions to avoid them scrolling as much as possible. If any transition looks awkward, then this is the exact reason as to why.

This run actually first started in february 2007, which makes it nearly 3 years old. We redid this run waaay too often due to improvements in the earlier parts of the run, the rest of the time was mostly spent on Phantoon, actually. We spent around 6 months on him alone before we managed to find the new improved method.

Regardless, I removed the door transitions and itemscreens, and sped up most of the downtime periods, except waiting scenes. I left about 30~ frames of the door transitions, to avoid that awkward chunkiness you get from completely removing them. Accordingly, I added some music to accomodate for the awkward skips in the background music or sped up sound;

Current Value - Dark Rain
Pendulum - Plastic World
Pendulum - 9000 Miles

All syncs are coincidental. Except in Ceres, the entire Ceres was made several months ago... which is indeed a testament to my laziness.

Please enjoy, and remember that this a tool-assisted production, using frame advance and savestates. Any information, or answers, can be found at tasvideos.org.

Finally - The ETA for part 2 is unknown. I haven't even started working on it, but I believe in about 2 days is a safe estimate.

  • Amazing video, but one question: after you beat Kraid, why did you bother getting the Varia Suit? Once you have the Gravity Suit (which you did) you don't need the Varia Suit to be heat-proof in Norfair. Unless there's some other use for the Varia Suit that I don't know of, you could have shaved off several seconds by leaving it alone.

  • @Sidnoea Without Varia Suit, Mother Brain's rainbow beam does 600 damage, instead of 300.

  • @Kriole I may be wrong but when you got the gravity suit, I saw the damage you take were same as you were using varia suit. I may be wrong then. As I heard: Varia Suit reduce damage taken by 50% while gravity only 25%. Together is 75% But you said that the rainbow beam (or murder beam whatever) does 600 damage whitout varia. So I guess is 50% then.

  • @Kriole Gotcha. I remember that now >_>

  • WOW! Killer moves, great route (I never would have thought to do the wrecked ship first or Ridley before Draygon) and excellent music choices. I'm going to check it out on the TAS site as well to see it at normal speed.

  • That is Amazing!!!

    5/5

  • Awesomefaceplz!

  • O_O no word to describe but AWESOME!!! d(^_^d)

  • Funderful :)

  • Cool idea to merge the intro into the background at the space station. Very nice! And the door transitions were very nice.

    Great run as well!:)

Although I personally prefer you let the door transitions remain and leave the original sound intact.

    Keep up the good work!
