Al Qaeda's No. 2 leader appears in new video warning

Hello, it's Thursday, July 5 2007. I'm Rebecca Field in for Kristin Volk today with a UPI top news update.

In a newly released video, one al-Qaida leader is threatening the Western World. CNN reports the second in command of the terror network, Ayman al-Zawahiri, appears in a one hour, 34 minute video titled "The advice of One Concerned." He says the defeat of the Western World is imminent. Al-Zawahiri did not reference the recent terror incidents in the UK.

At least 21 people are dead following tense battles at the Red Mosque in Pakistan. Security forces have been fighting with militant students in Islamabad for two days now. An Indian newspaper reports at least 150 are injured. Tensions between the two groups have been growing...Pakistani police believe the radical Muslim students are involved in a string of civilian kidnappings in the country. Officials are urging students to surrender.

Investigators are trying to find the cause of a nightclub explosion in China. 25 are dead and at 33 are injured after the blast erupted at an entertainment club in Northwest China. Officials are trying to figure out what caused the explosion and if it was deliberate or accidental. No other details have been revealed.

Several people are recovering from injuries following yesterday's Fourth of July celebrations. In Washington DC, 2 state park workers suffered injuries resulting from unused fireworks. One employee reportedly had serious burns while the other two suffered minor burns. In nearby Vienna, Virginia 9 were hurt and in Saint Petersburg Beach, Florida about a dozen were treated for fireworks related injuries.
