BNSF, Crossing the Cornbelt Volume 1
The Marshall Subdivision

If you crave variety, this tape has it! The Marshall Subdivision of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe runs from Willmar, Minnesota, to Sioux City, Iowa. This line runs through the rich farmlands of the upper Midwest. There is plenty of variety on this line. Many unit grain trains are common, along with coal trains, taconite trains, general freights and locals. 20 different locomotive models pull 60 trains throughout the video, along with an "in cab" view of the Garretson branch line from Sioux Falls to Garretson, South Dakota. Eight different road names appear, either heading a train or helping within the locomotive consist, along with many leased units as well.

  • Great video, I'm new to all of the train tech talk and am learning so much more than I ever thought. Have loved trains since I was 4! Any groups I can join on the web? I just started a YTube train vid ...hope to upload soon.

  • @iPhoneTrains

Thank you! There are lots of groups in Yahoo Groups that discuss just about anything and everything. Just do a search for the particular subject you want to know about and join that group. It is a great way to learn about the industry.

  • What is the model of engine starting at 2:32? They are beautiful whatever they are!

  • SD-9 and GP-7

  • Great video, I have relatives in Pipestone and have railfanned there often, never have seen any intermodals though, must have been rerouted, anyway, definatly considering buying some DVD's from you guys!!

  • Thank you! The intermodal train was a reroute that occurred in the spring of 1997 after the harsh winter and massive floods along the Mississippi River in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

  • Excellent photography and the trains are super. Really good video. Pete

  • I throttle jerked an old EMD GP7 ATSF 2655 1950 to 1958. They were a very nice Locomotive. I enjoyed the video very much.

  • Hey I don't see Thomas the train on here lol I use to live in Sioux Falls and would see the huge coal train's all the time, no wait that was just mt neighbor lol

  • love the horn at 3:06!!!

  • 2:32 to 2:40! Listen to those 567s doin' what they were built for! HELL YEAH!!!!!

  • @theup3985 They still do have a lot of color. You'd be surprised how many warbonnets they still have in service. But I do wish they had preserved more of the 'green' BN SD40-2's.

  • *Sigh* Back when there was still a lot of "color" on the BNSF. How I wish they would have at least preserved the Warbonnet scheme to complement the Pumpkins. All that same ole dirty and tired pumpkin orange these days is just depressing after a while :( C'mon BNSF, gimme an HIII swoosh scheme in Warbonnet livery!

  • S3k better known as cat's meow horn!

    I love it!!
