I'm not sure why, but everyone seems to go ga-ga for a dog that can balance a spoon, bone, ball or anything else on his muzzle. It is a cute trick, and at it's core, it seems pretty easy. I mean, all you should have to do is put an item on your dog's muzzle and tell him to stay. Seems simple enough, right?

Wrong! Most dogs HATE having their muzzles touched. In order to do get your dog to cooperate with this trick, you need to show him that having his nose touched is safe, fun and rewarding. I'll show you exactly how to do that in this video.

  • REALLY REALLY great video, Lilly is fantastic! I really enjoyed meeting you both so much, and love your video, very thorough! Kathy with Liz/Breeze/Cricket

  • @bordergirlsmom Thank you! I enjoyed meeting you and your doggies too. It was fun to watch each of them run through the agility course. You're an awesome handler!

  • I would LOVE to see some video's of you training cats, especially how your cat Smokey responds to your commands to sit, stay and come, and walk on a leash!

One problem I have is I can't get my cat Max to stop clawing my furniture. I've tried squirting him with a squirt bottle but he usually does it when I'm not in the room. And I've put foil on my furniture, but it is not very comfortable for me to sit on let alone it looks rediculous! Please help!

  • @CCTheKingsdaughter Unfortunately, I no longer have a cat. :(

As far as your kitty goes, does he have a scratching post? If not, you will want to consider getting him one or two.

Second, I would try to block the couch (temporarily) so that he can't scratch it. You can try putting double sided tape on it so that he won't like the feel.

Third, make the scratching post his favorite place to be in the whole world. Play with him there. Rub cat nip into it and hide mice, treats and toys in it.

  • I love it Nicole! You do a really great job of 'training' us human viewers too! Thank you for providing professional tutorial videos for us dog lovers. ( I wish you trained cats too!)

  • @CCTheKingsdaughter Actually....I have trained cats! I taught my cat Smokey to walk on a leash, sit, stay and come on command. I also taught our neighbor's cat and Sara to get along. They're best buddies now!

Thank you for the nice compliment. If there is anything you'd like to see, please let me know! :)

  • Hi Nicole! It's been a couple of months and I wanted to give you an update on my cat, Max. He is using his scratching post @95% of the time. When I catch him scratching the furniture (which is not often), I just say 'no' and he stops immediately and goes to his scratching post. Then I praise him for that. I give him treats by it and I've put catnip on it (which he loves!). I also put treats there for him to find later =). Max is doing much better - thanks for your help! Christy C

  • This is great! I want to teach my Lacy how to do this :)
