This is a video of a house fire that I took on my street about 3AM 10/15/09. No one was injured but the house was a total loss. This is in real time and as you can see it doesn't take long for the flames to completely engulf the two upper floors. This fire happened in Norwood, MA.

  • Why isn't anyone putting water on the flames through the window? It took 3:17 until the roof was starting to catch fire..In my mind plenty of time to do something

  • I know exactly what you mean. That's the first thing I said when I watched it. The only thing I can say is that they had to wait for the chief to sound the evacuate the building horn before they could put water on it from the exterior because they would drown their own men that were inside at the time however, I,m sure they could have been doing something. Most of the firefighters that were hanging around were mutual aid men from surrounding towns. All the men inside were from the Norwood FD.

  • Hey Nice Video Great job i live in norwood do you? u live on austin st Near the Balch School Right?

  • Hi,

I do live on Austin street. Thanks for the compliment on the video. All the activity early that morning woke me and I went out and shot this video with my little point and shoot canon. I wasn't sure how it would come out because it was so dark but it came out ok.

  • Ok, I'm not a firefighter and the only knowledge I have is stuff I've taught myself. When there are men inside the last thing you want to do is start putting water on the fire from the outside. By doing that you are forcing the fire/smoke/heat right down ontop of the men in the building. I'm sure its possible to drown them too. It's best to let it burn, at least it's going out the windows away form those inside. Safety first people!!!

  • i dont know if some of you guys are firefighter but your saying it took them forever to put water on it. You cant start pouring water on the fire if you have men below it thats probably the worst possible thing you could do on a fire scene.

  • @dougydo109 well yo they r checking if anyone is in there first before they put it out b/c they can save them and if that water hits any one in there it will hurt or injure them and if the whole building just falls apart it will kill any one thats in there

  • i know were this is im mor near the cleveland school than the balch but i know right were that is

  • Good video. Even with just a digital camera there was plenty of light from the fire to make an awesome film.

  • Incredible footage, that house looked like something from a horror movie.

  • Heros!

    .

a neighbor with a garden hose could have put water on that fire quicker.
