(Best Syndication News) The county of San Bernardino has purchased and outfitted four new disaster relief trailers. Four CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) trailers were on display at the Oak Hills fire station on Caliente Road.
Various public officials and community leaders were on hand at the display ceremony. First District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt was on hand along with local community leaders including Kathy Arch, Dot Flagg and Terry Kostak. Public Information Officer for the Emergency Services Division of the Fire Department, Megan T. Blaney, told us that the money came from the discretionary fund of Mitzelfelt.
The 17 foot trailers are outfitted with emergency supplies including triage tags, blankets, fire extinguishers, and medical provisions. Mitzelfelt says these trailers will be used for training and as caches of emergency supplies in case of disaster.
The San Andreas fault runs right along the mountains under the community of Wrightwood. Last November the county took part in the nations largest earthquake drill.
CERT is a training program developed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under Homeland Security. It began as a grass roots movement of the Citizen Corps and there have been 6000 San Bernardino residents trained with this program so far.
Emergency Services Office Dennis West was instrumental in seeing this project through. One of the trailers will be assigned for the communities of Phelan, Pinon Hills, Oak Hills and El Mirage. Hopefully these trailers will never be used.
