This is the baseline portion of a trick that later turns into him trying his very best to get the keys for me... even if it involves dragging them all the way across the room (which is the eventual plan for my actual keys).
So far so good, only took about a week of training so that he wouldn't go for his enemy toy (tied next to the keys) to make sure he really knows what I'm asking for when I ask for the "Keys" and make the visual que.

Well, it started by whenever I saw him playing with them, I would pronounce the word "Keys" pretty lively. I'd say it loud enough to get his attention, and then I would tell him good boy etc. etc.
Next, one day I started saying "get the KEYS" while holding some sunflower seeds. At first he didn't know what it meant, but I put the seed near the keys and said "KEYS" and he came. Then, he grabbed the keys. The rest is automatic, just gotta do it often so he doesn't forget. :)
