My Dad was living there until he fled the Russian occupation. Never had a chance to come home. He told me what it was like during that time. A very proud city. Very proud people. I'm only part Latvian but I hold that close to my heart.

Nazi Germany didn't rule in Baltics after WW2, they lost, Soviet Union however did rule here and they did nothing to save hundreds of years of history and traditions.

My father-in-law recently passed away and I have learned that he and his mother had traveled "though the fields" at night during WWII. His father was captured (Nazi's) and they ended up at a hospital... I located a document that says Rigas Pilsetas Dzimtsarakstu Nodala, Rakstiska zina..... So, I'm assuming this was from the City of Riga. It is dated Sept. 27, 1944.....would love to find out more info.

When you're 26, you're stupid. I've lived and worked in Europe. Don't talk! By the way, what do you mean about Israel: "it's all ours'? Is it based on yet another horrible religion? Why should you make that claim and not someone else?

@magnifier2020 you're stupid

Riga is beautiful again, since the Russians left. True, wherever they were in the 40 years after WWll, they ruined the cites and countrysides of Europe, where currently people are hard at work to demolish soviet reminders of the occupation. The Russians showed no sense or sensibility towards the greatness of Western European culture, including architecture. Many Russians never left their occupied lands, because it's better there than in their own horrible Russia. Congratulations, Latvia!

@kapkob2 Who are you asking that question? But on that note, why has it been covered up until recently that Vladimir Lenin was partially Jewish, along with Karl Marx, Leon Trotsky and many others. Why hasn't Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's latest book in which he discusses the brutality of Jewish communist leaders translated into englsih. They brought that brutality to the Baltic countries and deported hundreds of thousands to Siberia and many to their deaths.
