Art House Productions' The Heist Project (November 2005), enchanted
audiences and sold out performances with its stunning use of collaboration
(over 50 visual artists, writers, poets, filmmakers, musicians and
performers from New Jersey and New York) to create a "living art exhibit"
on the top floor of Victory Hall in downtown Jersey City, NJ.
This original play was based on the convergence of two true stories: the
largest unsolved art theft in history (Gardner Museum, Boston) and the
closing of Jersey City's famed 111 First Street arts center, cornerstone
of the city's exploding arts scene and home to hundreds of groundbreaking
visual artists, filmmakers and performers. The Heist Project asks, "What
is the value our society places on its on art and artists?"
"The Heist Project is breathtakingly ambitious and splendidly inventive.
All of the artists involved — the visual artists who created and designed
the installations; the writers; the actors; the filmmakers—are to be
commended for engaging our imagination and intellect with such acuity." - Martin Denton, nytheatre.com
