What does having respect have to do with a band who has poor live vocals? I think Mastodon's a great band, (CtS and Remission are especially sick) but it's difficult not to notice the differences between their studio and live sound.

I've seen Mastodon live and their live vocals aren't much different than they are in this video. Mastodon has a reputation for poor live singing, so unless they have the same bad sound guy following them around for years, I'd say band experience isn't necessary.

That's true I hadn't even thought of Sucimez.

However I was thinking specifically of the Devil's Orchard when I said that. Which I'd say is definitely a more varied and difficult vocal line than anything Mastodon has done, can't really speak for the guitar line though.

However, as a drummer I can say I'm always seriously impressed with Brann Dailor always being able to sing pretty well live whilst still doing many of the drum lines he does.

Far harder? I'd say they are pretty much on the same level. Look at Muhammed Suicmez from Necophagist or Paul Masvidal from Cynic, what they're doing is "far harder".

While many of us here can't, there are many out there that can.

Just look at Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth, he does vocal lines and guitar lines that are far harder than Mastodon's and does both perfectly live every time.

It'd be cool if they got a lead singer, but still had vocal parts from all of the other guys. That way vocals wouldn't suffer, and they could play all the guitar parts flawlessly.

You obviously never been in a band or know anything about being in one knowing the millions of things that can go wrong during a live performance, such as a ba sound man not getting your monitor right to all ou can here is the chick screaming in the front row wile you're tying to hear four fking self..Fo example...

they can't hit every note but the singing is so personal and punky =)
