Chairman Rob having a crack at slalom, Staffs and Stone style. If only he had discussed more about the course while he was there instead of all other aspects of canoeing and kayaking, he may well have done a bit better. He may even have noted that red gates are upstreams! Rob is Div 3 and enjoys the challenge of slalom but the lesson for others (and Rob of course) to learn here is clear. Inspect and study the course, both the water flow and the gates. Determine the fastest route. Work out and decide what strokes you will carry out. Go over the course in your mind as many times as necessary until it is as clear to you as the route from your lounge to your bedroom! If, during your run, you need to think about where the next gate is or which way the boat is supposed to be facing at any point, you do not know the course well enough. These factors need to be auto-neuron functions at this stage leaving you free to concentrate on how to negotiate the course not question where it is! I reckon that if I can get Rob to focus more on the task at hand, his results will improve significantly :-)
