If you would like to read my 3000 word essay on the mau mau rebellion i w ould be happy to send it to you. I spent a lot of time in Kenya, had a Kenyan boyfriend and spent a long time with Kikuyu's who had lived through Uhuru.... I was merely pointing out that the British only showed their side of the story not that of the Kenyans.

This is clear propagand from the British government. We have a clear hindsight now to see what really took place during the Mau Mau rebellion.

Unless YOU were actually there during the Mau Mau rebellion, which I doubt, louisanorth, the only hindsight you have on what took place, comes from what you have chosen to read which suits you! Could you perhaps list the African countries you have lived and worked in.

I'm sure,Tollund we can all produce sources and quotes, depending on our experience and contacts from the actual events. Perhaps if you spoke to some of the decendents of the villages of Lari, where the Mau Mau burnt the huts containing women and children, who they sealed inside, and even mutilated their cattle because they were deemed to be on the "wrong" side! you would get a different perspective.
In the "elections" some things never changed if you were not a Kikuyu! and in the wrong place!

What happened in the last election. And what role did the "colonials" play in protecting anyone?

The British colonists did in fact kill children, as well as unarmed men and women, out of racist hatred; they also forced thousands of Kenyans off their land and from their homes, and they still shot dead innocent civilians who played no part in the uprising. Colonialism was an oppressive and inhumane system, and it relied on violence to maintain itself. It was inevitable that eventually it would be met with violence.e

I doubt, TheTollundWoman, you have the slightest idea what happened in Kenya, anymore than you have facts to back up your statements. Your experience of the ACTUAL Mau Mau rebellion is based, one presumes, on being there at the time? Is It? Suggest you get out more ,Laddie!
During the latest Kenyan elections, it was the beastly Colonials who moved local Kenyans out of danger, as they had been threatened with death by the lovely Kikuyu!
Did you do anything to help?

For the British government to call the Mau Mau 'terrorists' was hypocrisy at its very worst. Terrorism was being committed every day in Kenya by the British colonists who forced thousands of people from their land, and by the British soldiers who shot and tortured unarmed civilians who were not even involved in the uprising. The Mau-Mau were brutal, yes. But their actions did not occur in a void. The real "menace" was colonialism and the crimes it involved.
