Stock Fieros 2.8s are hot, with a little tweaking for efficiency: This car has up-graded distrubuter, 45,000 volt coil, 8mm magnecore wires, platinum plugs (iridium better), K&N air filter, no EGR system to strangle engine (allows your engine to breath), 180 degree thermostate (2.8s want and need to run cooler); all resulting in smoother, stronger, cleaner, more efficient running, and much better gas mileage. It's like a different car! Next tweak will be a stage 3 clutch.

In this video, I dumped the clutch at 4,000rpm, but 5k would be mutch more impressive. I still got 30-ft. of rubber off the line. That means I'm definately getting more than the factory rated 140hp, just by giving her the tweaks she wants and needs. On the high-way she jumps to 90 faster than she used to jump to 80.

  • I would just like to up-date everyone on my car and my learning curve since this video. My advise: Don't do this to your stock Fiero, it just wasn't made for it. In 1967 I built a very hot '55 Chevy by dropping one of Jim Hall's Chevy Chaparral hypo 327, a real race care. When I took my little Fiero off the line with perfect speed shifts, that was a big mistake. Ever since, my synchros have been getting worse, and harder to get into the higher gears and shift down, which I do allot of.

  • I miss the Real Cars. Todays Cars are Crapp and no fun to Drive.

  • @buttmanroad You need to drive some good ones then my friend, because there's allot of them. Mostly foreign though I'm afraid. My son's girl friend just bought a 2009 low mileage Subaru, and it's really nice to drive. For the most part though I'd have to agree with you. The new Vettes are a really nice car, but how many can afford them?

  • fiero's aren't open differential? is that a GT thing or is that standard?

  • @scottyb400 I'm not sure about the stock transaxle specs., but it seems to have some positraction qualities, but always drifts to the right when taking off. I've noticed this in other cars using the Getrag. They first put the 1987 Getrag up-grade in the late '86's like mine. The Getrag was standard in the GT & Formula beginning with '87 as far as I know.

  • one thing beneficial to an 87 Fiero 25 yrs old is to lube up all the suspension connections and you will see what a 4 wheel independant suspension isall about

  • title should read: dad shows son how to catch 2nd in a 2.8! awesome!

  • @Hypo327 try adjusting your shift cables first before tearing apart the transmission..

  • the sound of the V6 is awesome!!

  • Is that stock exhaust and if it isent what kind

  • @Hypo327 Do you mean don't drop the clutch like that or don't do the upgrades? I have an 86 that looks exactly like this but it is a three speed. I want to perk it up a little and was planning on doing these upgrades. Any advise is appreciated.
