This sample re-edit restores the original Paramount card (as it appeared in 1979) and uses new music that combines pieces from both James Horner and Jerry Goldsmith. All the text cards have been rebuilt from scratch to duplicate the 2001 Director's Edition intro, but with new cues and synchronization; in fact, nearly all the cards are rhythmically cued with the music.

In this updated version of the clip, we are treated to a more impressive starfield effect. The looping starglow element is provided courtesy of original creator, "greyhoundbloke." The final composite adds the static starfield to the distant background and the rotation.

  • Thanks for your comments, FX. My problem with the original Goldsmith theme is that it's (now) too strongly associated with the Next Generation series. I still like it in the movie, especially during the end credits, but I really wanted the movie to open with something different--even if it was just another Goldsmith piece :)

  • Nice work. I think the original music would have worked well with the background you were using, it just felt to much like a hodge-podge to me.

  • @deLimitedProductions That's funny, I think the Next Generation is too closely associated with the Motion Picture theme...considering I was alive when it premiered in '79...lol

  • Cool, however it's hard to appreciate a clip with that disclaimer printed all over it, it's too distracting. Also, less variation in music would have been nice too.
