@Bloodfury96 Plus in basketball the game is based on gravity, so the ball is only in the air for so long. In tonight's Sharks/Canucks game Burns cleared a puck right before the final buzzer and it took about 3 seconds for it to go into the net, so that would happen a lot if the basketball rule was in hockey as well.
@BigMig5 Because basketball goals are way more common, therefore it's much more likely to happen in basketball. Hockey games aren't 98-80. They are 3-1, or 2-0. When was the last time you saw this happen? It would make no sense at all...at ALL for that rule to be established.
if the puck is in play when the horn sounds, ie: released from a stick and sailing toward the net, why can't it be like basketball and count as a goal?
Bet the ref needed an armoured escort out of the building that night...

I watched the game and screamed that I heard the period horn before the goal horn. I was right. Go Sharks.
