Shane Heal Visits St Joesphs & Townsville Sports Awards

Shane Heal four time Olympian and Former Australian Boomers Captain Shane Heal has visited the St Joesphs Primary school in Mundigburra ahead of tonight's Townsville City Council Sports Awards where he will be a special guest.

Shane Heal has said, "It's good to be able to talk to the kids and try to encourage them to be the best they can. We see some of the kids that don't naturally have that competitive mindset or are scared to fail. To be able to send a message to go and have a go and be the best you can. It doesn't matter how good or bad you are as long as you've had a crack at it. That's the Aussie way."

Mayor Les Tyrell is also over joyed about the Townsville Sports Awards to be held tonight from 6pm at the Townsville RSL Sports Stadium.

Cr Tyrell has said, "Tonight is an opportunity to recognize those high achievers. We also have the added bonus of the event being held in the new stadium."

Townsville City Council's Senior Sports person of the year award has been named as Rachael Flanagan the Fire's Basketball team Captain.
