Thank you for the information!! This is my second time making a whole wheat loaf of bread and my dough doesn't rise 1 inch over the pan. I did everything as listed and I believe it's because I didn't proof my yeast before putting it in with the rest of the ingredients.
hi i've add similar frustration, I've read that aluminum can have an effect of the yeast. Also, temperature is a key factor as well ( water, room temp. etc) check the date of your yeast and where you store it. good luck
So you just proof it and then dump it in after it rises/bubbles? Or can you dump the dry yeast directly? I did the latter making bread once, and it worked okay...and yes, this was the Active Dry Yeast.
I've tried to use yeast several times for recipes but it never does anything, the yeast/sugar/water mix never foams. I even have the same brand of yeast, and an identical thermometer, to those used in this video. I am off to google "yeast not doing anything"...
I've tried 9 packets of this brand of yeast and all failed. This stuff isn't cheap.

Do you have to take the 1/4 cup of warm water out of the recipe then ? let's say a recipe calls for 1 cup of water, do i use just 3/4 of a cup ?

Hopefully this was my problem! :)
