In Iran, the Islamic Azad University has a ceremony to thank the teams that have won medals in the RoboCup Open competitions.
Monday became the day to celebrate the result of years of hard work... Iran's Azad University has come a long way to find its place among the top universities in the region... and hosting the RoboCup Iran Open competitions since 2006, one of the largest universities in the world with over 300 campuses has also established a name as its teams keep brining back more medals home.
President of the Islamic Azad University (IAU) Abdollah Jasbi: "I see a very bright future ahead... three decades have passed and we've come a long way... now we are competeling with some of the best universities in the world... and we owe all this to the hard work, perseverance and faith in the capabilities of our students".
Qazvin Azad University President Morteza Mousakhani: "We provided the support and infrastructure needed and now we're competing against teams from Georgia tech, UT---university of Texas... Robocup has become a field that can even help research and development in the countries industrial sector".
The RoboCup Iran Open 2011was held in Tehran in April. It brought together more than 400 teams from around the world including the United States, Germany, China, Brazil, Japan, Netherlands, Britain, Mexico and India... Iranian teams won 14 gold medals as they took part in races divided in 19 leagues.
Team member, Sanaz Taleqani: "I joined the team as part of my Master's Degree thesis and I quickly became interested... our team has been doing very well... we won a silver in Austria in 2009 and now we are preparing for the completions in Turkey"
Iranian teams have been active participants of RoboCup events since 1998 with the number of teams largely increasing over the past years...
And now the teams are gearing up for international competitions to be held in Turkey in 20 days.
