AUGUST 2007: Hassan M. Fattah, NYT Middle East correspondent based in Dubai, talks to Columbia J-school Students. He graduated from the school in May 2000. This is just one minute from a 45-minute talk: "...it's about how you will serve society."

The three things in the background are the three things he says all American foreign correspondents need: 1. Nokia phone (because its chargers are widely available in the Middle East and Asia); 2. A pencil (not a pen, because the ink can run out); 3. A Swedish (or similar country) passport cover to put on top of your US passport (you can guess why).
