At the end of the day, black people have "nappy hair" to let heat escape through out heads, back in the day when we were in hotter climates, get cool circulation up in there, and to protect out heads from UV rays.

Some of don't live in those conditions anymore, so we can do whatever the fuck we want with our hair.

I just saw a commercial for Suave keratin treatments, which Keratin treatments is a hair straightening system for white women. So are white women who straighten their hair having self-hatred issues too? All women, of every nationality, straighten their hair, why is it just Black women who get blasted people as having self-hatred/ loathing issues?

@Topg1 Hey, yeah my family is black Caribbean as well, and although we are mixed and have very light skin, my sister and I have long kinky hair. As we got older, it was just expected that we straighten our hair. I think it's sickening that so much focus is placed on lighter skin and straight hair, its just a fact that an employer would take a woman that has that look as opposed to kinky hair. They see it as messy and unprofessional. It's sad but true.

str8 hair is so much easier to manage. Def understand the points ur bringing out. thx for addressing them.....wigs extensions etc for some girls r just so easier - we can get up & go vs 30m+ to style hair.

I think brainwashed is part of society. My mother (my family is black Caribbean) and father both tell me that my natural hair is unprofessional. I get into arguments with my parents when looking for a job because I say if I get hired I will wear my hair natural. My parents speak about how much its a bad idea. My dad also like it better when I wear my hair straight or a weave. I think family as well as social pressure to fit in cause bw to straighten their hair.

I don't even know where to begin with this bull shit video. This goes way past owning our roots, this has more to do with the fact that you have self hate.
