Raise both sides to a power that will eliminate the radical. For example to eliminate a square root - square both sides. To eliminate a cube root - cube both sides. 3. The final step is to check for extraneous solutions. Sometimes when we raise both sides to a power, extraneous solutions are created. To check for these, plug your solutions into the original equation and see if they actually work.
