High above the streets of downtown Vancouver on the 7th floor of the Freesia Condominium are more than 24, one meter square, garden plots available for condo owners to purchase. With no room to garden on ground level, residents can enjoy the view and the company of fellow green thumbs who want to grow something near where they live. City Farmer

  • Yeah that's an awesome idea. The condo's make money and the livers get a great service. Hopefully they will be able to grow enough of their food from those plots to pay for them and more. Also I hope they grow food and not just pretty plants. Would love to see an eventual update with lots of food growing!

  • Kudos to the condo owners for offering that amenity. Hopefully it isn't expensive. Can't wait to see what it looks like after a year or so.

  • What about wind protection on the 7th floor? Also 1 meter square is difficult to work with - to reach the plants for tending, harvesting pruning etc. Especially where 2 columns have been joined together.

  • They kind of missed it with these condo gardens. If you have to pay for a plot than they are not really "community" gardens. They are private garden plots which isn't terrible just not terribly progressive just giving people what they are willing to pay for. The effectiveness of the system would be improved by less compartmentalization and less walking around space and more actual gardens. baby steps are steps though.

  • The rooftop garden system helps the environment as well like absorbing CO2 from the air, lessen the what experts say the "Heat Island Effect", lessen rain runoffs, habitat for small birds & insects etc & lastly it also help beautify the building...Good work & stay green..:-)
