no big deal but cyclinders are named by how they would be in an inline engine so thats actually 1 3 and 5

does porsche number their cylinders in that order? 1-2-3 on one bank and 4-5-6 on the other?

@THRILLA98 yes, they are refered to in that order. #1 is just behind the passenger, followed by 2 and then 3, with #4 behind the driver....5, and 6 to follow, of course

thank you kindly for the compliments! I was at the Stuttgart museum in 2000 (when it was very tiny), and it was really cool! but, i hear that it is really amazing these days! Either way, go! Bavaria is incredible.

Is it common in other engine configurations to have crankcase halves?

"boxer", or "flat" engines usually have two halves. other configurations like inline or "v" engines usually have only one single block.
