This is a spooky lil 1935 Charles Mintz production. You'll need to turn up your speakers, cuz the sound's pretty quiet

A lot of the audio from this cartoon was used on the Jass Records Halloween Stomp CD:
-the opening song (The Haunted House)
-the bird's cry
-"Were ya scared?"
-the melody from 5:35 to 5:51
-"I'm a Ghost" song

Sorry about 5:06-5:34, I know it's offensive . Keep in mind, this was from 73 years ago.

Oh, and of course...

  • Big deal........what's so offensive? I'm American Indian....we shouldn't be so sensitive. Scrappy was one of my favorite cartoons growing up!!!

  • Thank You! Thank You! Thank You for posting this! Halloween Stomp is my most treasured CDs & I always wondered where those samples on there came from.

  • I love ghost cartoons, and this one is particularly fine. Rich expressionist animation, and the scene, towards the end, of Oopy dancing and singing before the fire is stupendous. I think Yukahotanashi123 is right Scrappy likely influenced Tezuma's design for Astro Boy.

  • @donnaslater2011 i love it and i'm black, i do see what they mean, klan ghost, black ppl with big lips klan ghost then indian spoofing, but either way i see no issue with it, i love the song (I'm a ghost. Wooo!)

  • Part of this is used in the awesome "Ghoul-A-Rama" album made by scarstuff

  • Now I remember this. Imagine, this is what the cartoon shows were like in the early 1950s, but we didn't have color TV, and these cartoons were only about 20 years old! They used a lot of classical music in these cartoons, like Hungarian Rhapsody for a vacuum cleaner chasing someone. I loved the Mother Nature and flowers cartoon. Where is the Scrappy's Birthday cartoon. Didn't it have a song "congratulations to you Scrappy"?

  • Wow and it's even semi-racist! Awesome!

  • The one kid reminds me of astro boy. The one with the black hair,

  • Thanks for posting this! My Grandfather was Dick Huemer (which he spelled Heumor), the creator of the Scrappy character. He later went to work for Walt Disney. It's great to see this stuff online!

  • looks surprisingly crisp for it's age and the standard of animation is very high, wonderful old thing

  • Check the superior shading! Fine animation! WAY before Calvin and Hobbes, Dennis the meanace and peanuts there was . . . Scrappy. Now thanks to the greatest medium since Gutenberg, he is with us still - and as often as we want!
