Bou Counta Ndiaye Ensemble, from Senegal in West Africa is one of
the foremost practitioners of the
Senegalese xalam (ancestor of the
banjo) tradition. Here is a video of the four man ensemble debuting at the 2007 Smithsonian Folklife Festival on the National Mall at their first performance whic htook place on the Tudor Rose Stage on Thursday afternoon, 28 June 2007.
