(May 25)Nats (moderator introduces Dixon as the winner; he says "sounds pretty good.")Scott Dixon stayed out of trouble and held off Vitor Meira (VEE'-tohr MEER'-uh ) to win his first Indy 500 Sunday. Dixon raced out of the pits ahead of Meira on the final round of pit stops and kept the Brazilian driver in his rear-view mirror. He finished 1.75 seconds ahead of Meira to win. Meira has never won an IndyCar race, but has come in 2nd in two of the last 4 Indy 500s.Dixon led for 115 of the 200 laps, but said he never felt he had the race won, even late in the race.SOT: Scott DixonAfter he won, Dixon kissed a brick at the start-finish line.Following tradition, he drank some milk to celebrate the win. Then, he poured some on his head.SOT: Scott Dixon Danica Patrick failed to finish for the first time in four trips to Indy, through no fault of her own. She was clipped on pit road by Ryan Briscoe with 29 laps to go, breaking the left rear suspension on her car.Patrick was clearly mad after the incident with Briscoe that ended her day.She climbed out of the car, ripped off her gloves and marched angrily toward Briscoe's pit stall. A track security official stopped her before she could get there.Patrick complained of a handling problem and never seriously challenged for the lead, finishing 22nd.Tony Kanaan was involved in a more violent crash on the track in a race that produced 8 caution periods.Kanaan was leading on lap 106 when Marco Andretti dove to the inside, which may have surprised Kanaan. He drifted high going into turn three, scraped the outside wall and turned into the path of Sarah Fisher.SOT: Marco AndrettiBut this day belongs to Scott Dixon, who started from the pole and won the Borg-Warner trophy in the 92nd running of the Indy 500.

  • The Winner of the Indy 500 Scott Dixon! But first we'll talk to Boby Rahal's overrated niece driver Danica Patrick, who was struck by Karma when this time SHE was knocked out of the race in the closing laps. Oh, sorry this isn't ABC/ESPN/IRL coverage, it's AP.
