And also some sad news out of Hangzhou to tell you about. A deadly car accident is causing an uproar there. Thousands are coming to pay their respects to one local college student whose life was cut short.
Back on the evening of May 7th, Zhejiang University graduate student Tan Zhuo was hit by a sports car in downtown Hangzhou while crossing the road. According to media reports in the Mainland, Tan was thrown five meters into the air and landed 20 meters away from where he was hit. He died instantly. He was a computer engineer and was planning to marry his girlfriend of seven years.
But the story doesnt end there. The man behind the wheel of the car was Hu Bin. After the accident Hu allegedly joked around, and smoked some cigarettes with his friends.
Internet users and Hangzhou residents were infuriated when they heard the news. To show their support for accident victim Tan Zhuo, tens of thousands of people held a candle light vigil in his memory. It was also a way for the people to urge local officials to prosecute car driver Hu Bin.
We can feel sad, feel grief, but we cannot remain silent. We must not remain silent.
But authorities have been less than supportive. Theyve banned reporting on the issue, fearing unrest in the city.
Witness believe Hu may have been driving as fast as 150 kilometers an hour. But a press conference held by Hangzhous city government says he was only going 70.
It is strange. If the car speed is 70 kilometers an hour, how can it toss someone five meters high?
Hu Bin has since been released by the police.
