After my previous performance of "Pirate Jenny" as translated by Jeremy Sams for the Donmar Warehouse production of "The Threepenny Opera" (which we adapted for our production at SUNY Geneseo in November 2008), I received a bunch of messages from Threepenny scholars who were happy to finally see somebody performing this particular translation--including one from Mr. Sams himself! When he told me he'd be in New York in mid-September, I invited him to this show and revived the piece. Despite a few Americanizations I made (e.g. "noise" instead of "row"), he said he loved it and that I did him and Kurt proud. :-D

"Pirate Jenny"
from "The Threepenny Opera"
Music by Kurt Weill
Original German lyrics by Bertoldt Brecht
Translation by Jeremy Sams

Here's a clip from the Geneseo production uploaded by our Mr. Peachum: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMHCh_jqxYQ (you can see me at the end if you look really closely, I'm the one in the ridiculously wide fishnets)
