This is how you can land on Top Gun for NES. Watch the numbers. Also, to get past the first level with no attacks, just down DOWN so you gain maximum altitude. The trick to landing, is to get the altitude right first(or the speed if its closer to the requirement), then try to get the speed right(or altitude if you did speed first), without changing the altitude by more than about 25-100 points. When slowing, aim straight up to try to slow loosing altitude. If your altitude drops too low, you instantly crash.

I could never land as a kid unless I was lucky, but knew someone that could land 90% of the time and I never knew how. Now I understand what is going on, thanks to "The Angry Video Game Nerd" for inspiring me to figure it out. It took me over 20 retry attempts to understand what button does what and what the "advice" they give you actually means.

  • My q\question is about the very end of your vid: what is that picture of the plane about. I've never seen that before. Something that was added later on or something, or something you created, or what?

  • @darkpowrjd maybe it only shows up if you don't crash. I usually crashed, until I kept trying over and over and over and over and over and over, until i finally figured out what the heck you do and how to do it. I didn't add anything to the game, idk if someone modified my game, but i doubt it.

  • Has James Rolfe seen this?

  • @NuggetPumpkin Haha, I doubt it, I wonder if he ever learned how to land. I had to try landing over and over until I finally figured out what you do. The problem is, it only tells you what is WRONG, it doesn't tell you what is right. You may have the Altitude right but Speed wrong so you fix the speed but ruin the Altitude and you just keep going out of the ranges until you crash. WOULD HAVE been better IF the Speed/Alt lit up when it was within range like green=good, yellow=near, red=fail.

  • @guest2424 James DID land the plane once, but he was wearing the power glove, so...

  • @tencents6 LOL! Oh yeah, I had the powerglove for a few hours and my parents returned it to the store the same day, it was too difficult and buggy to use.

  • when i was little i couldnt do it and i got crashed. now i no wat to do w/o crashing.

  • @guest2424 Actually, I found out after I posted: this is the Japanese version of the game.

  • @xbatusai Funny you should mention that, because he had it up on his site, explaining it!

Also, to this day, I can't help but think of the Irate Gamer as a really well done troll/parody of the AVGN.

  • people always talks about James (AVGN) Rolfe and how he can not perform "easy" tasks in some video games, the fact is, he might be able to do them, but his character is the regular average gamer with average skills, hasty and impatient. So by portraying that profile, he is unable finish many areas, zones or tasks on video games, he represents the average lazy gamer.
