had gerd for 4 years psychetruth now i am 18 years old lol its terrible

@sultanchamp Actually they say avoid peppermint.

This is not necessarily true, you can't cure GERD with food alone. I have not eaten anything and still have acid reflux.
I agree you probably don't want to take PPIs forever, at least not at a high dosage. However people need relief. Waking up at night and choking on acid, feeling like you're going to die is no joke.
Sleeping with your upper body elevated is the most important thing, you never loved gravity so much! You can get a cheap wedge or go all the way with an adjustable bed.

@reconstructivehealth Microwave or boil them. They taste a hell of a lot better when they're soft. Try it.

@ScottieWallace yeah, he got good advice but he repeats the damn thing over and over.

I know I cant take them forever but until it heals will it be ok, and then what can I do to keep it from coming back. 10000 in hospital bills is nuts!

Hi I have gastritis, inflammation right after my stomach, never have the burning feeling, just get so swollen that food does not go through.
I eat the best diet in the world but it just gets so bad I end up in the hospital and they cant do anything I have crohns to and the only drug that would open me up was humaria. I was against taking the acid blockers but I just took one today and just the biggest relief in the world food is moving through like it was when I was a kid!

some suggestions from the Dr. would be good...don't depend on drugs, change diet.... its not that simple. Perhaps suggesting certains foods to eat and avoid (besides the obvious alcohol, spicy foods, caffeine, etc. not eating prior to bed..), alternative remedies such as apple cider vineger and/or sodium bicarbonate, staying well-hydrated, sleeping on an incline rather than flat are things you can do to eleviate GERD.
this was just a 10 minute anti-pharma rant.

Pharmaceutical industry is the biggest mafia.
